3D Display - Re-Imaging (Three.js & Leap Motion) from Robbie Tilton on Vimeo.
Very interesting 3D concept display here that`s rotatable and could be of great use to engineers and designers. It uses a prism and four images to create this 3D effect, now add gesture control and voila, one very cool almost holographic display.

Intel Atom based servers are nothing new now, using the same old Atom CPU you`d get in a netbook or nettop. But the new Atom CE5300 System on a Chip is aimed squarely at the home storage market and allows "customers to easily set up all of their media in one place and avoid capacity limitations of mobile devices." This new dual core processor is capable of transcoding and adapting video content to suit a number of devices you may have. Think of an HD video streaming at 1080p to a TV, then converting to 720p for a tablet, and maybe even 480p (blah) for a smartphone for optimal viewing and storage.

Panic the developers of Coda and Transmit disassembled the Lightning Digital AV cable that allows iOS devices to output HDMI to televisions. What they found is pretty interesting, the lightning adapter is way more complicated than previously thought. Panic has found an ARM chip along with 2GB of ram and it looks as though it runs some sort of mini IOS.

The judge that ruled against Apple in an Apple vs Samsung case now has a job with Samsung. The Rt. Hon. Professor Sir Robin Jacob had the crazy idea of publicly shaming Apple by making them post a public apology to Samsung on their web site. It`s official, the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 versions of Diablo 3 will not be able to connect to Blizzard`s Battle.net. So in essence you won`t have interplay between Playstation Network and Battle.net which means no interplay between the platforms. The interesting thing though is PS3/4 players of Diablo 3 won`t always need to be connected to play either.

The Tizen open source mobile OS has had a number of false starts over the years. But now we can have a look at this first demo on a prototype Samsung phone. Bare in mind this is not a release ready product, a very early version actually, but it does look a lot like Android.
at 5:45 PM
Samsung Media Solutions Center boss Hong Won-pyo has stated that Samsung plans to phase out the Bada operating system and focus its efforts on the new Tizen OS. Viewed as some as a maneuver to distance themselves from Google`s Android or just a precautionary move Tizen is also an open source mobile OS that will be launching in July or August of this year.
Good news, AMD the makers of the processor that will be powering Sony`s next generation console the Playstation 4 will be offering a cut down version for sale later this year. This new 8 core APU will have the same number of cores and presumably the same graphics as the one in the Playstation 4 minus the custom Sony bits.

Let`s face it, hair in video generally ranges from the blocky bad Lego hair to just plain awful. WebOS was a great mobile OS, and then it was gone. Acquired by HP from Palm a while back there were high hope that it would make a resurgence, that never happened. Enter LG. LG has just acquired the rights to webOS along with the source code and related documentation, engineering talent, and related webOS websites. LG are claiming that they will only use webOS in its smart TVs but I`m better they`re hedging their bets against Android.

Mozilla is getting into the smartphone OS business. Firefox OS for smartphones, and I`m betting tablets aren`t far behind will be completely open-source and rely on HTML5 standard as its guts. Touted as having a much smaller footprint than IOS or Android presumably this will not need the hardware requirements that seem to jump every year. Mozilla also stated that third party developers would be free to sell mobile apps without needing to share revenue.
